What do an aeronautical engineer, an art teacher, a Pinterest queen and a principal all have in common? They’re presenting at this summer’s Online Arts Integration and STEAM Conference! Today, we are happy to announce that the 2015 Summer Online Arts Integration and STEAM Conference is now OPEN for registration. This is always an exciting event, and definitely one of the hallmarks for our organization. Twice a year, we bring you some of the best educators from around the country sharing what’s working for them in arts integration and STEAM. If you were one of over 1,000 educators who attended our last online conference in February, you know the kinds of exciting presentations I’m talking about. Here’s a sneak peak of what will be offered during this summer’s conference event…
We have over 15 sessions planned for you that ranging anywhere from 15-25 minutes. This gives you a chance to hear both quick, useful strategies and some more in-depth, immediately-actionable processes currently used in successful integration initiatives. You can check out our Sessions page for all the presentations that are being offered (and many more to be added), but here are a few highlights:
Experimenting with Color – This session from popular presenter Beth Elliston focuses on integrating science into art using the scientific method to explore the difference between colors in art/pigments and color in science/light.
Pinterest IN the Art Room – So you know how to “pin” art ed ideas, but then what do you do with them? Donna Staten shares how to streamline your classroom with a virtual filing cabinet- PINTEREST! It’s the technology component that ties everything together.
Put On Your Math Goggles: Seeing Math in Art – Dr. Robin Ward will show you how to facilitate the use of “math goggles” to discover and discuss mathematics in artwork. You’ll explore the works of famous modern artists such as Jackson Pollock, Andy Warhol, and Georgia O’Keeffe through a mathematical lens, and learn how using these arts integration strategies can lead to a deeper understanding of both visual art and math.
What’s the Mood, What’s the Setting, What’s the Theme – Music educator Jennifer Kauffman will share how you can get your students to cite details from the story as they use their bodies and instruments to help their audience better understand the text.
PLUS over 12 other presentations ranging from early childhood drama to high school digital art.
TINKERKITS ARE BACK!
One of our most popular features from each STEAM conference are the TinkerKits. These are mailed packages of samples, coupons and discounts from leading arts, technology and science organizations picked just for you! Each package contains supplies that we use during the STEAM conference in our hands-on sessions and resources you can use in your classroom right away. We only have 500 of these, so once they are gone – they’re gone. They go SO quickly (last year, we were out within a month), so if you’d like one, be sure to register quickly. In case you miss out, we do offer a digital version with downloadables and coupons, so all our participants receive something as a gift from us and our partners to you!
LIVE OR ON-DEMAND
It’s summer and that means vacations and other obligations. We get it! That’s why we offer the ability for ALL our registrants to access the conference both LIVE and On-Demand. The day of the STEAM conference, if you can attend live, you’ll just click the single-login link we’ll send via email that morning. You’ll be able to chat with presenters, explore exhibitor booths, and view each session in real-time. If you can’t attend on the day of the STEAM conference, if you miss a few sessions, or if you just want to go back and rewatch anything, your registration provides you with access to our on-demand viewing site. This site provides you with access to all of the sessions, handouts, community and even the digital TinkerKits for a full year. Convenience and flexibility are important to us and to you – which is why we’ve created these events!
EASY TO USE PLATFORM
Don’t let technology worries stop you from attending. Our platform is extremely easy to use and there is no software to download. If you can browse the web, you can attend this conference.
FINALLY…INTEGRATION FOCUSED PD
There are lots of options nowadays for people looking to receive online professional development, which is fantastic! However, this is still the ONLY place to receive a full conference experience online dedicated solely to arts integration and STEAM. When I first started out in arts integration, it was hard for me to find classes or conferences that weren’t hundreds of miles away. If I did attend, it was usually expensive (registration, hotel, travel, etc) and meant long hours or days away from my family.
I started this online arts integration and STEAM conference 4 years ago for this very reason – so that anyone and everyone can have access to high-quality, practical professional development from the best-of-the-best in the field. Not just experts and consultants, but also teachers and leaders who are making it work every day and having success! If you’re looking to connect with other educators who are passionate about breaking down the silos and integrating the arts, this conference is for you.
I hope you’ll join us for this summer’s event – you can learn more and register right here on our conference website. It just takes one degree of difference to move from STEM to STEAM – let’s do it together!
